Learn how you can sign up and log in to your Wavefront instance if it's onboarded to VMware Cloud services account.

Starting with the 2022-xy release, Tanzu Observability by Wavefront is a service on VMware Cloud services. VMware Cloud services provides centralized authentication to all of your VMware Cloud services, including Tanzu Observability.

If your Wavefront instance is onboarded to VMware Cloud services, you must sign up and log in with a VMware Cloud services account – either a VMware account or a federated corporate account.

Here’s how it works:

  1. If you don’t belong to the VMware Cloud organization in which the Tanzu Observability service instance is running, you can be added to that organization in one the following ways:
  2. The VMware Cloud organization owner grants you access to the organization’s resources with an organization role. See What organization roles are available in VMware Cloud Services.
  3. The VMware Cloud organization owner grants you access to the Tanzu Observability service instance with a Tanzu Observability service role. In a multi-tenancy environment, you can have a different Tanzu Observability service role for each Tanzu Observability service instance (tenant).
  4. You sign up for the Tanzu Observability service instance with an invitation link from your email notification.
  5. From now on, you can log in to the Wavefront instance from the VMware Cloud Services Console or directly by using the URL of your Wavefront instance.

If you received an invitation email with a link to join the Wavefront instance, follow these steps:

  1. Click the link in your invitation email.
  2. Authenticate yourself.
    • If your account is not federated, you must sign in with your VMware account credentials.

If you don’t have a VMware account, you must create one.

    • If your account is federated, you must sign in with your corporate credentials.

  3. On the Organization tab of the Services page, locate the Tanzu Observability tile from the list of the services available to the organization.
  4. In the Tanzu Observability tile, click Launch Service.

If you belong to multiple tenants, from the drop-down menu, select the tenant to which you want to log in. Drop-down menu with several tenants.

You are redirected to your Wavefront instance and you’re logged in with your user account.

From now on, you can log in to your Wavefront instance from the VMware Cloud Services Console or by using the direct URL.

Log In from the VMware Cloud Services Console

You can log in to the VMware Cloud Services Console and launch your Wavefront instance. If you have access to multiple Tanzu Observability service instances, you can select the tenant to which you want to log in, because VMware Cloud Services also supports a multi-tenancy login.

  1. In a Web browser, go to https://console.cloud.vmware.com/.
  2. Authenticate yourself.
    • If your account is not federated, you must sign in with your VMware account credentials.
    • If your account is federated, you must sign in with your corporate credentials.
  3. If you belong to multiple organizations, switch to the organization in which the Tanzu Observability service instance runs. See How do I access another one of my organizations.
  4. On the Organization tab of the Services page, locate the Tanzu Observability tile from the list of the services available to the organization.
  5. In the Tanzu Observability tile, click Launch service.

If you belong to multiple tenants, from the drop-down menu, select the tenant to which you want to log in. Drop-down menu with several tenants.

You are redirected to your Wavefront instance and you’re logged in with your user account.

Log In by Using a Direct URL

You can log in to your Wavefront instance directly by using its URL. If you have access to multiple Tanzu Observability service instances, you are logged in to your last visited tenant but you can switch to another tenant.

  1. In a Web browser, go to https://<my_instance>.wavefront.com.

If your Wavefront instance is onboarded to VMware Cloud services, you are redirected to the VMware Cloud Services Console.

  2. Authenticate yourself.

    • If your corporate domain is not federated with your VMware Cloud services organization, you must sign in with the email address and password associated with your VMware account.
    • If your corporate domain is federated with your VMware Cloud services organization, you must sign in with your corporate credentials.

After the successful authentication, you are redirected back to your Wavefront instance and you’re logged in with your user account.

If you belong to multiple tenants, from the gear icon on the toolbar, you can switch between tenants. Drop-down menu with several tenants.
